Marcus Antonius Jansen is known for his gritty urban “lifescapes” and is considered by many art critics a new leader in Modern Expressionism. He is noted in Who's Who in American Art, Famous 100 Contemporary Artists book, Sweden and listed in the Flavio Puviani-International Encyclopedia Dictionary of Modern & Contemporary Art Ferrara/Italy.
"What used to be the fields for Van Gogh, is for my generation the urban environment" says Jansen. The recently crowned “New Artist of the Year” 2005 by the Alliance for the Arts, has been juxtaposing sophisticated, complex and culturally as well as socially inspiring works since his military discharge. Jansen has traveled extensively to places such as Italy, Spain, France, UK, SW and SE Asia and lived in different parts of Europe since a young age including over 15 years in Germany where he studied at the Berufsfachschule fuer Gestaltung (Design) and the Berufschule fuer Maler (Painters) in Moenchengladbach. He was commissioned by Ford Motor Company as their Centennial artist in 2003 to capture the contribution of particular minority workers at Ford and has recently been approached by Warner Brothers to create an interpretation of the Wizard of Oz for 2007- 2008 that will be exhibited at Art Basel Miami and have traveling exhibitions worldwide.
Jansen, is referred to in Paris France as the American "Pope" of Urban Expressionism and has exhibits in respected Galleries, Museums such as recently the Tampa Museum of Art as a winner of the under/CURRENT/over/VIEW 8 Biennial. He has his permanent Jansen Gallery located in the heart of Paris France Le Marais art district the American Art Gallery.
